Tremendous ambiance and local beer selection. It has a Jimmy Buffet "Margaritaville" type atmosphere. The food I would give a 7\10. Nice clam chowder. Big menu with good variety. A fun place to go if you're in Port Clyde.

Two stars for the atmosphere and short wait time for a table (which I understand now). We spent two weeks in PT Clyde and ate here a few times. Like others have said service is way too slow. Food is mediocre at best...second visit my wife ordered chicken fingers and the rest in our party just had chowder and steamers. Chowders all came out luke warm, chicken fingers and fries cold. Sent them back...waited 10-15 minutes. Delivered chicken fingers and they were obviously slung in the oil again until almost black. I asked our server if they could start over and do it right? Waited another 15 minutes...came out hot, finally. But by then my wife had lost her appetite and the rest of us had been done eating for 30 minutes plus. How hard is it to deep fry chicken fingers and fries and deliver within 5-10 minutes? They probably need to add an extra server and some supervision! Not perfect!

Beautiful location, nice atmosphere, and the food was good... but the Dip Net provides horrible service. This was the second time I had hosted friends at the Dip Net. The first time the service was horrible. The second time around showed no improvement. We were seated and we waited...... Finally placed our drink order and waited........Placed our food order and waited even longer. By the time our food arrived, our drinks were gone and our waiter never even noticed. He disappeared before we could ask for refills and never came back to make sure our dinner order was satisfactory. By the time we had all finished our meals, I had to go into the kitchen to ask for our bill, and even then it was 10 minutes before anyone could come back to our table. I have to echo the previous review from "Andrew F" You'd think being owned by Linda Bean and her endeavor to provide a "Perfect Maine" experience would bring forth stellar service. Instead the service here is excruciatingly slow for everything and something so simple as a waiter/waitress noticing an empty glass was not to be had. The only difference between me and "Andrew F," I wont be coming back anytime soon.

My husband and I ate here last evening. Service was slow as usual. I ordered the Mixed Grill, which is comprised of tuna, steak and 1/2 lobster tail. I first took a bite of the tuna. It tasted "off" and smelled like ammonia. I moved to the beef and that tasted like it was old and had a bad odor too. I complained to our waiter, who apologized, but never asked if I wanted something else, nor did he take it off the bill! I got sick during the night and my stomach is still making rumblings this morning. We are year-round residents on the Peninsula and will not be back! Linda Bean, you should NOT be in the restaurant business!!

This place has gotten even worse since Linda bean bought it. The service is excruciatingly slow and the food isn't very good, the portions are small, and the prices are high. If you need a refill on your drink or an extra napkin you'll need a flare gun to try to get attention of a waitress. Just don't bother going to this bad tourist trap and hit mcloons or dougs for takeout.

We came to Port Clyde to see the Fort point lighthouse. There are not many choices for lunch so we chose the Dip Net for lunch. My wife had the Haddock Sandwich (with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes) and french fries, and I had the seafood platter. We both loved our meals. The fish, clams, lobster and shrimp couldn't have been fresher, and the french fries were especially tasty. The breading was light and not at all greasy. The coleslaw was a good accompaniment. Our waitress filled all our requests with a smile. The deck overlooks the water with views of the lobster and ferry tour boats.

Down hill....that's the direction the Dip Net has gone. In fact the only positive I can mention is that the dock service is much improved. The food quality has dropped significantly. I had a Polly wrap which tasted like something you'd get in coach on a crappy airline. Those in my party both had lobster rolls which they said were absolutely tasteless. Guess Linda Bean's taste buds are shot if that's what she thinks is perfect. Even the ambiance has been killed by reorienting tables and adding an awning to the majority of the seating area. It used to be great to sit outside and enjoy the breeze and sun but now it feels like you are indoors and is just a very poor experience. To top off poor food and poor ambiance the service is bad. Not atrocious, but bad. We were there close to opening and were the first table and our waitress didn't even get us menus for about 15 minutes. My water was refilled once despite being empty for about 30 minutes, and the waitress made up poor excuses for each lapse of service. Unfortunately there aren't many other options where we can dock our boat so for now we'll keep going here, but no longer will we endeavor to go here as often as we once would. It truly is a shame to see Linda Bean ruin what was a once great establishment. I hate to see someone who has such a history in Maine thoroughly destroy what is truly one of the greatest places in the United States, but unfortunately that is what she has done, and Dip Net is just one of the many examples.

Steer clear of the Dip Net, a once-enjoyable eating experience has turned into a culinary cluster f.... This place needs a manager not an absentee landlord. Despite the cheerfulness of the kids who wait the tables, they get no supervision. Seating practices are chaotic. People jump the line by going up to the bar to avoid dealing with the long waits for table service. As for the food, it has declined steeply. For goodness sake, Linda, leave the lobster roll alone! It is now seasoned with herbs that don't belong on one.: just a dab of mayonnaise will do. A novel if revolting note: chicken fingers tartare. That's right, undercooked chicken for a little kid's lunch. It's evidence of an overworked and careless kitchen staff. The waitress offered to take the charge off our bill but we were so anxious to get out of there, we declined the offer. A final, sad note: stay away from Port Clyde. You will have to fight for parking with the people getting on the Monhegan boat and the commercial vehicles unloading at the General Store. If you want good, tasty Maine seafood and a great view, go to McLoon's in Spruce Head, which just made Huff Post's Best in Maine list. The best that can be said of the Dip Net is that it is near a really neat coffee place and the ever-popular Village Ice Cream shop

Beautiful spot on the water! Sat at one of the wonderful fire pits and enjoyed an delicious meal this past summer. Came back several times requesting the same spot! If you are looking for good seafood, a bit of a laid back atmosphere and a wonderful view come here! I've had both the mussels and clams which were both excellent! Also the fried fish sandwich was to die for (good bye to my diet though). The service was great, our waitress was very polite every time and attentive. They also have several wonderful salads and a good selection of beer and wine. Hard liquor is also available but no drink menu. Kids menu as well with lots of favorites.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at the Dip Net on a Thursday night in August. We got a cute little table with a fire pit inside it right next to the water. It was really nice. There were only two waitresses on and it was relatively busy, but the service was pretty fast regardless. We aren't really seafood lovers so I can't comment on the quality. However, the table behind us seemed to thoroughly enjoy their lobster and clams because they got seconds. We got burgers and fries which I thought was really good. They also had a decent selection of local/Maine beer. We were hesitant to go here because one local business said the food wasn't that great and another didn't even mention it when we asked where to go nearby, but I'm glad we did. Even if the food wasn't good, the atmosphere was worth it.

One of the worst restaurants I have been to. I am a vegetarian, and I was not expecting much. My review isn't based on the lack of vegetarian food. They actually have several vegetarian options on the menu. I saw local greens and rice as a vegetarian option and I was happily surprised. I ordered that plus the hummus (to share with the table). The greens consisted mainly of yellow squash, which was actually more of a light brown. And squishy. It and what appeared to be boil-in-bag rice, were served together in a few inches of water. No salt. What I would guess is that both veggies and rice were boiled in bags then dumped with accompanying water into a bowl and served. I covered it in Tabasco and it was still inedible. The waitress was nice enough to refund it from our bill, but it turned me off of ordering anything else. My boyfriend ordered a crab roll which he said was flavorless, his stepfather ordered a burger which he stated was overcooked, and my boyfriend's mother ordered the bruschetta. The bruschetta was reportedly good. The hummus appetizer we ordered was pretty bland but edible. The celery served with the hummus was brown, but the other veggies seemed "ok" (ie, not super fresh but not awful), and the chips that came were stale. Ugh. I would not recommend this place to anyone. 4 out of 5 things we ordered were not good, one of them very bad (my "greens" and rice). It is too bad because I have heard it was really good when the previous owner ran it. One last thing. I saw the waitresses pour left over beverages through the deck under the table into the harbor water. I hope it is only water they pour down there.

Great menu and local craft brew on tap. Enjoyed full lobster with clams and out standing chowder. The freshness was everywhere.

Ronald is right - this place ROCKS. I went with my parents in late 2007. My dad had the Bouillabaisse (local lobster, crab, fish, shrimp, clams, mussels, oysters & scallops in a tomato / saffron broth) - it was KILLER. My mom was having dental work, and could only handle the lobster bisque, which was heavenly. I had some lightly fried oysters with ginger shallot sauce, and mixed greens with a citrus vinaigrette. The best thing about The Dip Net is THE DETAILS. They get ALL the details right. The decor (ridiculously authentic), the location (can you say VIEW?) and the menu (even a green salad is perfection). The wait staff are just as nice as pie. I loved this place so much I bought a t-shirt, because I would be proud to walk around advertising for them. ;-) If I remember correctly, we also split a rhubarb pie, because I never miss a chance to have rhubarb. You really can't go wrong here.

This place was awful! Linda Bean, grandaughter of Mr LL Bean himself has bought the entire town and this place included. Wings were cold in the middle chowder was from a can, prices were very high. I am shocked considering the clientele are people with huge boats or island mansions. I would think they have higher standards. Why she is skimping on qulity I have no idea consiering she is loaded. I would recommend staying away!!!!! The grilled cheese for my kids was good they didn't screw that up oh and my dads salmon was frozen in the middle on top of a ceasars salad. That was 24 dollars! What a rip off!

We recently spent a 1 1/2 weeks in Port Clyde and had a late lunch at the Dip Net. While the view of the harbor from the deck is great and the service is OK, the food was terrible. The fried calamari had way too much breading and was over cooked. The lobster claws took the prize for the worst dish we've had in months. They had obviously been previously steamed and then re-heated. They had a strong odor/flavor that no amount of butter could disguise. Go there for the view and beer, but don't eat the food.

Great Seafood, Great Location, right on the water in Port Clyde. Mussels are delicious as are many of the other menu options. Don't listen to the other reviews, try this place! I have had the Blueberry Wings several times and they have always been good. Great place for a casual lunch or dinner.

this place is great. ok, maybe i am crazy. a vegetarian thinking this pretty much seafood-only on the water spot is wonderful. it really is. we were on our way out to monhegan and stopped here for dinner. all the seafood that came out looked amazing, i heard nothing but people raving about their food and then my "Summer Vegetable Plate with Tofu Cutlet" came out and DAMN it was one of the best tofu veg dishes i have had in a long time. sitting on the dock, the sun setting .. really a great place to be. (unfortunately it wasnt on the lunch menu also - we stopped on our way back in from monhegan and were bummed to not get the tofu again, but what we picked from the menu was almost as good..) no complaints here. worth stopping at if you are in port clyde... ambience was nice - outside on a dock or if you want to sit inside they have a few tables and accept reservations for them. wait outside on the dock in line and when a table opens up seat yourself.

I grew up spending my summers in Port Clyde when the Dip Net was a hole in the wall reserved for locals and lobstermen. It's REALLY changed in the last 20 years. I went last summer and couldn't believe how great the menu was. I recommend going for lunch on a warm day, sitting on the deck and enjoying the view of Huppers Island and the Port.

My wife and I stopped in for a 6:00 pm Saturday dinner. Dining area is on an outside patio that overlooks the dock and Hupper Island (?) across the channel. Dining area was not completely full, but busy enough where the waitstaff was in motion and hustling for the hour or so that we were there. Menu has a lot of choices. Beer selection on tap was good, with 8-9 selections. House chard we ordered with dinner was a Clos du Bois. We started with some raw oysters that were very good. My wife had the fried seafood Captains platter (haddock, shrimp and clams). I had the lobster roll. Both dinners came with a small portion of cole slaw. The dinners that we had were ok; nothing exceptional - nothing really bad. The waitstaff here was pretty good, above average.. Our waitress and the manager/hostess were very friendly and attentive; and were able to answer any questions we had about the menu and beers. Good local place with nice atmosphere and decent eats.

My tip: Don't forget the tp when you go to the men's room (even if you're a woman!)! Went out to Port Clyde today and walked around the pier for a bit and decided to have a drink on the desk overlooking the water. The Hoff and I enjoyed Maine Logger Lager, which I've never had before. I'd order it again, but I doubt I'd find it in the Midwest. It's a local brew, but it was bottled. It may have been from Belfast, Maine. There are a lot of Irish names in Maine it seems. The highlight of the visit, and what gets this place a four star rating, is that I needed to use the restroom. Apparently, the women's room is out of order, so you need to use the men's room, which is off the dock. I was told I might need to go back in to the restaurant and get a roll of TP. So I checked the TP situation, went back and retrieved a roll, and completed my journey.

Perfect lunch on the outside wharf, long picnic tables, bathtub filled with live lobsters. I could not resist one more lobster roll. Fresh, delicious, could have used more sauce either on the bun or on the table. Husband got the fried Halibut sandwich, fresh but a bit too greasy. Coleslaw had some, very little, kelp and was tasty.

We were four adults and four children and got there right before the lunch rush. Our waitress didn't stop by at all after we got our food. So no one got offered refills. She stopped by the table some thirty minutes later just to drop off our check. She didn't split the check the way we asked and had a 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill. And the chicken tenders were dry as bones.

Very friendly servers. Kid friendly. Not thrilled it isn't owned by a local and now owned by Linda Bean's company that seems to own a lot in this area. Food ok, not good and not terrible. I had a great lobster roll "butter on the side" (bartenders recommendation) at Poon's up the street.
